Guru Padmasambhava is believed to be born from a Lotus in Northern India. He is one of the founders of Tibetan Buddhism. He is also known as Guru Rinpoche and Guru Oddiyana. He is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as second Buddha. After the death of Gautam Buddha, he is said to manifest himself to expand the teachings of Tantra and Dzogchen (Great Perfection). Guru Padmasambhava is considered to represent enlightened mind of all Buddhas. He completed all his enlightened activities for the benefit of all living beings.
Guru Padmasambhava is represented seated on a lotus with legs crossed, the right hand holding the five pronged ‘vajra’ and lying in his lap is cup filled with nectar of deathless wisdom. He holds his special symbol, the ‘Khatvanga’ pressed against his breast with the left arm.
